Environmental Consultants Brisbane & Queensland

Austecology is a specialist ecological consultancy delivering environmental assessments, threatened species management, biodiversity offsets, and thermal drone fauna surveys across Queensland and the Northern Territory. Led by Lindsay Agnew, a field ecologist with over 30 years’ experience and contributing editor of Shorebirds of Australia, our team has delivered ecological assessments for projects ranging from small developments to infrastructure of State significance.

We bring decades of experience across local government, State, and Commonwealth regulatory frameworks to every project, sizing the level of survey effort and reporting required to meet the expectations of the relevant assessment agency.

Featured Project

Yarrabilba Urban Development

Client: Lend Lease

EPBC Act referral, koala management planning, and over a decade of ongoing monitoring across a 2,000-hectare State urban planning initiative in South East Queensland.

From the initial ecological assessment and referral through to implementing a comprehensive koala monitoring program in collaboration with the University of Queensland, this project demonstrates the full lifecycle of our services — assessment, approvals, management planning, and long-term compliance monitoring using thermal drone technology.

Conservation

Turner Family Foundation Koala Monitoring

Thermal drone and ground-based koala population monitoring across conservation properties in the Scenic Rim, Queensland.

With 218 koalas and 5 threatened species identified within a 10-day survey, this project showcases how technology can greatly enhance both efficiency and results.

Rehabilitation

Ranger Mine Rehabilitation Monitoring

Aquatic and terrestrial fauna surveys supporting the rehabilitation and eventual incorporation of the former Ranger uranium mine into Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory.

From threatened bat surveys and semi-aquatic vertebrate monitoring to designing a 25-year rehabilitation monitoring framework across 700 hectares, this project spans the full breadth of our ecological assessment capability.
